A versatile pen

There is so much more you can do with markers than illuminate passages of text. With the paint-like consistency of gel pens paint markers are excellent for everything from kids’ art projects, to notice boards and more.

You can use permanent markers to leave an indelible message on different surfaces, like glass, plastic, metal and stone. Non-permanent markers (aka dry-erase markers) are great for whiteboards or glass. And highlighters are the best way to highlight text.

Tip material

Markers have two different tip styles. The first is a firm, plastic nib encased in a metal funnel. The ink is evenly dispensed, making it perfect for illustrating or writing. The second is a spongy, cone-shaped tip. With the tip’s point, you can write finely or shade in colour.

Tip size

There are two main tip sizes. One is a fine tip, which creates fine lines. The other is a broad tip, which feels smoother, and produces bold lines.

Ink quality

Most marker pens have pigment, or water-based ink. However, others contain alcohol and oil-based inks. This ink is most effective on glossy paper, metal, glass or plastic. For more permanent results, we recommend opting for acid-free ink. This will retain colour and quality for longer.
