Rotring 800 Drafting Pencil has the hexagonal pen body which prevents rolling of the pen on the table. This design helps to reduce the possibility of dropping and breaking the pencil. The label of the brand and the size of the pencil is printed on the pen body, which are easy to see.

Unfortunately, the Rotring 800 0.5mm pencil was a huge disappointment. The leads kept, and continue to snap into small pieces inside the lead advance pipe mechanism. No matter which grade lead or brand I tried (Ain Stein, Faber Castell, Staedtler, Uni Dio in H, HB grades, they all end up in little bits falling out broken. I'm sure this is not Bungowbow"s but an issue with the Rotring 800 pencil itself. After researching the problem on Hoogle there is a plethora of articles/reviews on this very same lead breakage problem with the 800 model 0.5mm pencil. I wish I could recommend this pencil but I can't, it is unusableble. I should have

AustraliaThe Rotring 800 Retractable Mechanical Drafting Pencil 0.7 mm is of excellent performance with B leads. It is light, fits Staedtler 552 compasses and a host of templates to say the least.
AustraliaWhat is there to say, Rotring pencils are tremendous, whatever level of their pencil range you buy, and I have almost all of them. Still as someone once said, nothing exceeds but excess… Okay, the 800. It’s the build quality. When you turn the knurled top it just slides and clicks into place. No fuss, no slop in the mechanism, just a joy to experience. No, they are not paying me to wax lyrical about this pencil. I have over a hundred mechanical pencils and try to cycle through them all a week at a time but at the end of the day you do gravitate to a few, and, despite some interesting and novel engineering in some other manufacturer’s offerings the full metal Rotrings figure large. Oh yes, I like the weight of the pencil as well. One tiny gripe is the sharp edge on the barrell above the knurl, the 600 and the Rapid pro have a slightly smoother contour.
